been lurking here a while and finally have a story worth posting. i daily in LA and always wanted a modern V8 muscle car but the prices on a clean scat pack out here were nuts, every dealer wanted near sticker on a three year old car. so i started looking out of state.
buddy of mine at the local cars and coffee told me he shipped a charger in from a lot in north texas and it went clean, so i started watching jacksboroautosales.com. found a 2019 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack 392, the 485hp 6.4 Hemi, 8 speed auto, 31k miles, one owner. octane red with the stripe delete look i wanted. asking was about 9 grand under what the same car with more miles was going for at the socal dealers.
first thing in my head was somebody beat on it. a used scat pack is exactly the car that gets launched at every light and tuned by some kid. so i called the jacksboro lot and the guy actually knew the car. told me it was a one owner trade, bone stock, no tune loaded, the PCM was never touched, and the only thing he flagged was the rear tires were about done from the last owner clearly doing burnouts. sent me like 60 photos and a cold start video plus a walkaround.
here is what sold me. i wasnt flying to texas, so i paid a mobile tech in the fort worth area 150 bucks to go scan it, pull the PCM for any tune history, check for codes and put it on a lift. came back clean, stock tune, no driveline slop, brakes and Brembos good, just the worn rear tires they already told me about. that was the whole list.
pulled the trigger. jacksboro auto sales did the paperwork and i had a clean california title about two and a half weeks later. shipped enclosed to LA for 1250. been driving it since early october.
anybody else buy a muscle car off the north texas lot? curious how they held up for the rest of you.
